About the Zwickau Open-Air Theater
The open-air stage in the historic Schwanenteich Park is a cultural landmark. Designed like an amphitheater, it features an oval-shaped arena with tiered seating. Romantically nestled within the Schwanenteich grounds and surrounded by lush greenery, this gem for open-air events is located just a stone’s throw from downtown Zwickau. Built between October 1955 and August 1957 in the southwestern corner of Schwanenteich Park, the open-air stage is considered the most beautiful facility of its time in Zwickau. Built by the people of Zwickau in 33,000 hours of volunteer labor, it offered seating for approximately 3,200 spectators for a wide variety of cultural events, such as summer movie screenings, concerts, variety shows, and family programs. The open-air stage was inaugurated on August 23, 1957.
In 2010, the open-air stage underwent extensive modernization. The construction work included the installation of a permanent, covered stage, the renovation of the food service area, and the construction of an acoustic barrier.
Even today, during the summer months, the open-air stage remains an indispensable venue in the cultural landscape of the entire region, offering an enchanting outdoor atmosphere for up to 4,900 people, depending on the type of event.
Seating
The Zwickau Open-Air Theater has a maximum seating capacity of 2,918. In addition, there are approximately 2,000 standing room spots.
For seated events, tickets are sold either with assigned seats or with open seating within a section (A–F).
